09/18/16 – HPS Presenting at the Center for Healthcare Governance Fall Symposium

HPS Presenting at the Center for Healthcare Governance fall Symposium

BOZEMAN, MT (May 24, 2016)

Tom Olivo, Founding Partner of Healthcare Performance Solutions (HPS) will be the general session speaker for The American Hospital Association’s Center for Healthcare Governance (Center) at their fall Symposium on leading and governing health care organizations, on September 18-20, 2016, at the Hyatt Regency Boston.  The Symposium theme is Embracing and Effecting Change: Governance and Leadership of Transforming Organizations.

Industry leaders will gather in Boston to discuss strategy and best practices navigating the increasingly complex world of healthcare.  Expert research conducted by Healthcare Performance Solutions and the measurement research arm of the firm, Success Profiles, Inc., has quantified increasing complexity within the context of healthcare leadership effectiveness.  Results revealed a number of challenges and opportunities to help leaders succeed within this complex environment.  According to Tom Olivo, “when organizations align and match the talent level of leaders with the predetermined complexity of their assigned roles, they increase their overall odds of success from 3:1 against to 2:1 in their favor.”

The Symposium is designed for governing boards, CEO’s, senior executives, physicians and key clinical leaders.  Since it was established in 2002, Healthcare Performance Solutions has been working exclusively with these leaders in hospitals and health systems across the United States.  Those in attendance at the Symposium will hear Tom explain how health care providers continue to search for ways to compete for every dollar.  Two measures that can assure a hospital’s survival and even set the foundation for long term growth are leadership appointment practices and talent management programs. “Leadership ultimately shapes every aspect of an organization,” says Olivo, “and getting the right people in the right roles generates success in difficult environments.”

An affiliated organization of the American Hospital Association, the Center supplies advisors who are nationally recognized as the foremost voices in the practice of hospital and health system governance. HPS is proud to participate in the fall Symposium and shares the common goal to advocate and support excellence in health care governance.

The Center for Healthcare Governance is authorized to award a total of 19.25 hours of pre-approved ACHE Qualified Education credit (non-ACHE) for this program toward advancement or recertification in the American College of Healthcare Executives.

How to Combine both Art & Science to Become a More Effective Coach

Coaching is an essential management skill set to help everyone improve, especially the more talented. Coaching skills are a signature feature of leadership cultures at the best performing healthcare organizations.

Healthcare Performance Solutions (HPS) is currently offering a half-day workshop for hospital and health system leadership teams. In this workshop, leaders are introduced to the concept of “directionally correct coaching,” also known as “situational coaching.” Following a logical methodology, leaders learn a practical and applied approach to delivering effective coaching conversations. Content includes a combination of business practices, behavioral science and technology, and evidence based management decision making.

Grounded in extensive research from Success Profiles, Inc., the research and performance measurement arm of Healthcare Performance Solutions, leaders learn to recognize 7 leadership considerations for consistent coaching prescriptions. Case study demonstrations are provided using business simulations to apply these key considerations within the context of three of the most common coaching scenarios in healthcare.

HPS offers an extensive variety of workshops designed to enhance leadership development and talent management.  For more information on this workshop or any other, call 406.582.8884 or submit an inquiry on this web site.

02/10/16 – HPS to Speak at Dallas / Fort Worth Healthcare Human Resources Association

HPS to Speak at Dallas / Fort Worth Healthcare Human Resources Association
Diary of a Change Champion, Connecting Leadership Effectiveness to Overall Outcomes

BOZEMAN, MT, (February 10, 2016)

Healthcare Performance Solutions (HPS) will be speaking at the Dallas/Fort Worth Healthcare Human Resources Association meeting on Wednesday, February 24, 2016, in Irving, Texas. The topic – Diary of a Change Champion, Connecting Leadership Effectiveness to Overall Outcomes – will be presented by James Jiloty, Advisor of Talent Development and Performance Improvement at HPS. Attendees will learn key elements of corporate culture change programs and see the qualitative and quantitative data proving the single largest influence driving culture change comes from improving leadership effectiveness.

“Organizations get sold on the idea that they need to improve staff customer service or employee engagement,” states James Jiloty of HPS. “While well intentioned, these programs are usually a huge waste of time and money. What matters most and what drives performance improvement by almost every measure is the intentional design of a high performance leadership culture intensely focused on measuring leadership effectiveness to diagnose and prescribe the best improvement plans, one leader at a time.”

At the meeting, healthcare leaders from a variety of backgrounds will have the opportunity to hear and see real examples of organizational readiness, internal service excellence, handling unexpected adversity, and over-managing leadership performance and talent management. Visual analytics and measurement solutions developed by HPS will be featured, displaying qualitative and quantitative analysis of high and low performing organizations, connecting business results and outcomes.

“We are very much looking forward to meeting in Texas later this month at this chapter of the American Society of Healthcare Human Resources Association (ASHHRA),” says Jiloty. “We participate annually in ASHHRA and look forward to continuing discussion on this topic with more members at the ASHHRA national conference in Texas later this year.”

01/22/16 – HPS to Speak at 2016 Rural Hospital Leadership Conference

HPS to Speak at 2016 Rural Hospital Leadership Conference
Creating Superior Health Care Performance with Leadership Alignment

BOZEMAN, MT, (January 22, 2016)

Tom Olivo, Founding Partner of Healthcare Performance Solutions (HPS) will be the general session speaker at the 2016 Rural Hospital Leadership Conference February 9, 2016, in Phoenix, Arizona. In this session, Tom will present Creating Superior Health Care Performance with Leadership Alignment.

“As health care continues to search for ways to compete for every dollar, one measure that can assure a hospital’s survival and even set the foundation for long term growth is talent management and leadership appointment practices” states Tom Olivo. “Hospitals can increase their net operating margin up to 4% by implementing an evidence-based, structured approach to leadership alignment – unfortunately the vast majority of organizations lack just such a way to assist struggling front-line managers.”

Conference attendees will benefit from Tom’s extensive experience working with over 250 hospitals and healthcare systems across the United States. He will share valuable insights in to what the best of the best healthcare leaders do differently, complemented and quantified by Operation Prototype, a compelling research study of leadership behavioral profiles. Tom will also share the HPS methodology and disciplined approach to improve leadership alignment and leadership appointment success rates using talent and Degree of Difficulty measures, a program that can be achieved by any hospital, regardless of size.

Leadership ultimately shapes every aspect of an organization, and getting the right people in the right roles can generate success in a difficult economic climate. “As goes the talent and leadership ability of the front-line manager, so goes the performance in that department by any measure,” says Tom Olivo.
